Instagram can be a bit of a mystery for business owners. As a commenter on one of my recent articles wrote, This article will walk you through my top 3 tips for using Instagram to do just that. While this may be true, I’m betting you’re not looking to get famous; rather, you want to build a solid presence on the platform in order to engage and connect with your target market.

1. Hashtags need to be Part:

Apart from your image, your hashtags are the most important element of your post. While captions help you tell the story behind your image, hashtags allow you to get your image seen by those outside your current sphere of followers. When users search for relevant industry related hashtags, you want your posts to show up. If not, there’s a good chance your competitors’ posts will……..increasing their influence and helping them grow their followers.

There are three Main Startegy

  1. Use Popular Hastags like (e.g., #love, #tbt, etc.)
  2. Use less popular hashtags yet highly-relevant hashtags.
  3. Use hashtags commonly thought to attract new followers. (#followme, #follow4follow)
2. Be part of the Instagram community

There are many ways to build and/or be part of a community on Instagram. Using hashtags (see #1 above) allows you to connect with users you may never otherwise have met. Liking and commenting on other people’s photos gets you engaged with the greater community (and often helps you grow your own followers as people reciprocate). Participating in Instagram campaigns intended to further a worthy cause can help you contribute to a greater good (#movember is a great example of a cause perfectly suited for a visual-centric platform like Instagram). Sharing images and videos from events can help your followers feel like they’re in on the action, and are a real part of your community.

3.  Use Instagram ads to extend the reach of your posts

Instagram now allows all businesses to advertise on the platform. Up until a few months ago, only big brands could access this feature. Keep in mind that you currently need a Facebook account to create an Instagram ads can only be created in Facebook ad creation or Power Editor. Test out ads for your own business to extend the reach of your organic posts.

Hashtags are Twitter’s way of bundling information together by keyword. People following hastags are interested in that content. If your content suits one, you’ll reach an audience that’s keen to engage with it.

  • Never Use More Than 3 hastags on per post
  • Keep them short
  • The More precise,the better
  • Make them easy to remember easy to spell

Have emails sent as replies

Choose to either have emails sent as new messages or as replies to the last conversation you had with each recipient. The latter will create the impression that you manually replied and typed a message to that recipient individually, which should increase your response rate.

Google Sheets integration with GMASS

After two weeks of development effort, GMass’s Google Sheets integration is complete. You can now send a mass email/mail merge campaign easily to contacts in a Google Sheets spreadsheet.

To get the feature, just do a hard re-load of Gmail in your Chrome browser.

You’ll notice a new Google Sheets icon next to the “Build Email List” button. Please note that we re-named “Compose from Search” to “Build Email List”.

Click the Sheets icon, and after you’ve authorized GMass to access your Google Sheets spreadsheets, a window will popup showing your spreadsheets, and allowing you to choose one.

You do not need to specify which column contains the email addresses, because GMass will auto-detect that and read the other columns in the spreadsheet to allow you to personalize your mass email with any of those fields.

Your spreadsheet needs to be formatted properly for GMass to read from it. The first row should contain column names, like FirstName, LastName, EmailAddress, Company, LastPurchase, and others. The actual data should start on the second row.

If your spreadsheet has multiple worksheets, then a Worksheets dropdown will also appear, allowing you to select the specific worksheet from which you’d like GMass to read. If your spreadsheet only has one worksheet, then this dropdown will not appear.

After clicking the Connect button, GMass will read the email addresses and other data from your spreadsheet and load the email addresses into the To field of a new Compose window.

Clicking on the settings arrow will reveal the personalization buttons, one for each column in the spreadsheet. Click these buttons to insert the personalization fields into the Subject and Body of your email message.
